-- reviewed the homework which was the Roma Reading Questions and Sentences for paragraphs 1 and 2. This was checked for a grade.

If you missed class today, we:
-- reviewed the quizzes which were taken last week
-- were introduced to the new unit on Roman roads. Roads help significantly with trade (make it easier and quicker to get goods to market), with defense and offense (soldiers can walk and move equipment faster), with navigating (it's easy to follow a big road to a new place). They are also a symbol of Rome's power when they are built in newly-conquered territories. But roads are also detrimental -- enemy armies can march down them too.

1. Be prepared for a quiz next class on the countries in the Roman empire, on the languages that come from Latin, on the history of the alphabet, the five important dates, important pronunciations, and how to greet each other in Latin. Review your worksheets to prepare for the quiz.
2. Get your Welcome sheet signed if you haven't already.
3. Cover your book if you haven't already.
4. On a separate sheet of paper, write three SHORT paragraphs (including an introductory sentence and a concluding sentence) on how we know the way words were pronounced in ancient Rome. Give an example.
