WINDY HILL MIDDLE SCHOOL GUIDANCE / Ms. L. White (A-K ) Ms. J. Roehm (L-Z)
Middle school is a time of intense challenges and changes for the middle school learner. With help from supportive parents and school personnel, this will be an opportunity for growth and development. We hope to help our students, during these middle school years, learn to discover talents, develop new skills and to plan for the future.
Career Cruising for All!
This year all students will work with counselors on career development.  Sixth and seventh grade students will determine what their interests are and explore careers of interests.  Seventh and eighth grade students will do a more in depth research of colleges, universities and trade/tech schools, and/or  armed services, create goals and complete information about hobbies, interests, extra curricular activities, and special awards.  Each student  will create a portfolio which will be accessible throughout his or her school career.

Stop Bullying Video Challenge

Stop Bullying Video Challenge Submission Deadline Approaching

The submission deadline for the Stop Bullying Video Challenge is just one month away.

Remember:  The challenge is open to U.S. students between the ages of 13 and 18 years old. It is designed to showcase ways that youth are taking action against bullying and promoting a culture of kindness and respect in their communities.

Full details about the contest, including judging criteria, are available at stopbullying.challenge.gov. For a few ideas about what constitutes a winning submission, please see the checklist below:

-The video and its message are appropriate to theme. The submission focuses on how youth can prevent bullying by being “more than a bystander.” It communicates a positive message that involves kids talking to kids and does more than simply explain why bullying is wrong.

-The video is creative and original. It offers a fresh, innovative approach to bullying prevention, using audio and visuals to enhance the overall message.

-The video is appealing and entertaining for viewers and promotes StopBullying.gov. It must also fall between 30 and 60 seconds in length.

CTY Talent Search - Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is a nonprofit center dedicated to recognizing and developing K-12 learners of great academic promise.  Since 1979, CTY has supported many advanced learners through courses, services, and resources specifically designed for them.

Enroll your child in the CTY Talent Search, and see your child's academic abilities in an exciting new way while opening doors for many new opportunities.

As a member of the CTY Talent Search, your child takes a test designed for students several grades higher.  Results from this above-grade testing will profile your child's individual math and verbal abilities and show how he or she compares to other very bright, same-aged students in the US and around the world.

For more information pick up a packet from your child's guidance counselor or visit:  www.cty.jhu.edu.
