This website was created as a resource for my students and their families. Students can find links to explore, can view publish work, can find help with their homework, use links to practice skills, and share classroom news through their own blogs. Families can see what is happening in class, what we are learning in reading and language, add their thoughts on the current Mark Twain nomminated book, and see what their children are working on. We will be doing a study of grammar using G.U.M.  Each lesson is broken down into 3 parts.  The first part will be completed in class while parts 2 and 3 will check students understanding of the focus skill.  Additional exercises are available if needed.  We will also be working on a new spelling workshop, writers notebooks, and competing in an essay contest.

First Quarter: A review of the seven parts of speech and Narrative Writing

Second Quarter Expository Writing and Complex Sentences

Third Quarter:  Descriptive Writing, review of grammar skills and usage including test taking strategies

Fourth Quarter: Poetry Unit

Language also includes Spelling skills and Handwriting.

First Nine Weeks: Students are introduced to comprehension strategies, centers, small groups and using the anthology.

Second Nine Weeks: Students are introduced to literature circles.

Third Nine Weeks: Class time is divided between literature circles and using non fiction text.

Fourth Nine Weeks: Students will conclude with student lead literature circles and small groups.
