¡Bienvenido a la clase de español!
¡Anuncio importante!
Materials needed for the new school year: * a 3 or 5- subject spiral notebook (This will be used for the 3 years of Spanish. Many students will have this from the previous year(s)) * a sturdy PLASTIC folder (paper ones do not hold up) for keeping handouts *Be on the lookout for these items as stores hold their school supply specials over the summer. Welcome to Spanish class! Spanish is offered to all Middle School students (grades 6-8) at Mother Seton. Class is held twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Class time is spent actively engaged in learning and reinforcing vocabulary and grammar. Students participate in partner activities, both small and large group activities, group repetition, and individual practice. Students will generally have homework on Wednesdays that is due on Thursday. Homework that is assigned on Thursday is due the following Wednesday which is the next class day. Any student who does not have the assigned homework on the assigned day will receive a Homework Notice. One grace day is allowed before a penalty is assessed on the assignment. If an assignment is more than 1 class day late, it will lose 1 letter grade for each day of lateness. Students are strongly encouraged to practice Spanish every day! Even if it is only for 5 or 10 minutes, this will keep the sound and idea of Spanish fresh in the mind. Our textbook, Realidades, offers 2 excellent websites. On either site students can practice flashcards, do self-quizzes, listen to vocabulary in context, and play games. All of these are linked directly to the text, so what they are practicing is exactly what we are studying in class. Click on the Links tab above to connect to any of these sites. SPECIAL REQUEST: If you have old magazines at home you would be willing to donate for use in classroom projects, you can donate them to the Spanish classes. We particularly enjoy magazines with pictures of everyday items: food, clothing, people of all ages and facial expression, household, etc. Please be sure the magazines are appropriate for school use with no offensive or suggestive photos or articles! ¡Gracias! ¡Importante! Students are NOT allowed ON ANY ASSIGNMENT to use an on-line translator! Any assignment on which a student has used a translator will be returned to be redone for a reduced grade. ¡Mucha buena suerte! Good luck as we embark on many adventures in Spanish!
