Business Technology Classroom Rules
Internet Use Rules & Responsibilities
• Enter the room quietly and sit in your assigned seat.
• Listen and follow instructions.
• Do not sit on the desk.
• Do not block the entrance to our classroom.
• No eating or drinking.
• Raise your hand if you would like to get Mrs. Lane’s attention.
• All classroom assignments must have the proper TCMS Heading.
• You are assigned a workstation. It is your responsibility to inspect the workstation and equipment at the beginning of each class period. If the workstation or equipment is damaged in any way, you must report it at the beginning of the class.
• Students are not to access the Internet without permission.
• Do not log on as another student or give your password to another student.
• No printing unless assigned or approved by Mrs. Lane.
• All students must conduct themselves in a responsible, decent, ethical, and polite manner.
• Internet use is for research and educational purposes only.
• Students must keep passwords confidential.
• Students are not to copy and/or install software.
• Students do not tamper with cords or plug-ins.
• Do not change screen savers.
• Do not change desktop backgrounds.
• Do not add, change or move icons on the desktop.
• Students are not to burn CD’s without the permission. Students will be permanently removed from the network for any copyright violations.
• For educational purposes students can use iTunes to rip CD’s for educational purposes only, such as for use with PowerPoint and/or Flash.
• No outside CD’s/DVD’s are allowed without prior approval (including music CD’s).
• Students are not to visit inappropriate sites, including MySpace and Face book.
• Students are not to download files from the Internet with out Mrs. Lane’s permission.
• Students are not to hack or attempt to hack the school’s network/website or other’s websites.
• Students are not to access other people’s passwords or accounts.
• Students are not to check their Email accounts without permission.
• Students are not to play ANY on-line games, or to download ANY games, or to play ANY games contained on their flash/jump drives without permission.
Note: Any extra credit assignments must be approved and assigned in advance by Mrs. Lane .
This list is subject to change at any time.
Internet/Games/Music/Video Discipline Plan:
Only go to Internet Web sites, play games, listen to music files, and watch videos assigned by Mrs. Lane. You are in this class to learn how to use computers to be productive in the work environment. If you are on non-assigned Web sites, games, music, or videos; the following special discipline plan applies:
1st Infraction – Loss of Computer Time and Phone Call to Parent/Guardian
2nd Infraction – Referral to Office
Dishonesty:
Cheating on test, quizzes, homework, class work, programs, (copying someone’s work) etc. will not be tolerated. This will result in a zero for both parties involved. Consequences for inappropriate use of the computers and/or network, as with other discipline rules in the Hillsborough County School district, will reflect the seriousness of the infraction.
Restroom:
Go to the restroom before you come to class.

Course Description
As you walk through the classroom door you will be entering the exciting world of invention,
innovation, engineering, and entrepreneurship. Students will learn how to develop an invention or
innovation from the idea stage through the prototype stage. Each student will learn how to:
1. conduct Internet searches on ideas
2. conduct patent searches
3. find clients and customers willing to help develop the idea
4. write a invention statement
5. use a decision matrix to evaluate alternatives.
6. run simulations of basic concepts using programs such as Interactive Physics
7. develop time line plans using Excel.
8. make a presentations using PowerPoint
9. make detailed and 3D drawings using CAD
10. build prototypes
11. assemble a final report which will sell the idea to potential investors.
Students will also focus on advanced design methods and gain knowledge of how ideas can be scaled up
all the way into manufacturing and commercialization. They will gain a deeper understanding of how
technologies are developed and of how engineers interact in the process. A significant part of the class
will focus on tying into the strengths of units of science. Finally, students will learn a number of design
and prototyping skills including soldering, use of basic hand and power tools and work together building
prototypes.
