THis week has been hectic and I apologize for not updating this sooner. Today will be the day students will meet as a delegation (class) to re-create the USA Constitution. Students went over the rubric and expectations Thursday. Students are expected to have reviewed their notes and rehearse/prepare to be an active participant within the project.
On a personal note I am excited to see how the class responds and work towards meeting the expectations I have laid out. I feel really confident that this could be a good experience for them. The students have worked really hard overall and many have been motivated.
This project will last over 3 days. Students will be using a scaled down version of ROberts Rules as we all meet. Attached is the Rubric for this event. |

Reflection Essay (optional) (homework)
Due Date: October 10, 2008 |
 |
Since many students failed or didn't do well on the first test I am assigning an optional assignment. If a sudent chooses to do this assignment then I will grade and add it as part of their grade. Students who opt not to do the essay will not be penalized. The essay is worth 10 points.
Students are to inlclude the following in their essay
1. Why they didn't do well on their test. (if it applies)
2. How they plan to improve their grade and effort in class.
3. Map out a detailed plan on how they plan to improve.
What they may need help on or areas they are week in when it comes to studying.
Essays must show effort and provide plenty of detail. Simple solutions like, "I will study more," and "I will study harder," are not acceptable. Students must provide details. |

Review Outlining and Practice
September 16, 2008 |
 |
To make sure students know how to outline they will create their first one. They will be given time in class to start their homework so they can receive help if needed. It is VERY IMPORTANT that students give their best effort even if they find it difficult. At this point it is okay if students make mistakes.
Parents: Every year I insist students outline and learn and practice the skill. In my experience I find that many students will have difficulty. It is new to them and they tend to quit trying to learn the skill. Parents should practice this with their students at home. |

Outline (homework)
Due Date: September 16, 2008 |
 |
Previously students have taken notes on a handout I gave them. The content was on England's colonization of the New World (1607-1732). Before studens took notes on what they read, I had taught them how to highlight text. Now I would like for the students use their notes to create an outline.
This is Due Wednesday. |
