Since there has been so many absences the due date for the essay has been postponed until 12/4/09. Anyone who turns in the essay on 11/24/09 will receive extra credit. |

| Students should research their topics. They are required to have 3 supporting facts for each sub-topic. One supporting fact must be a quote from an expert on their topic. |

Thesis Statement

A thesis statement is where the writer will state what their opinion is and what they will also write about. It should be clear and is usually in written as a "because" or "due to" state.
Example: Homework is an essential part of learning because it requires students to work independently, it teaches student they have to be responsible, and extends learning outside of the classroom. |

| Students should develop an opinion about their topic. Once they have done this they should also select 2 reasons as to why they think this. These 2 reasons will be their sub-topics to their essay, which will also be their 2 body paragraphs. Once this done they should write their thesis Statement. |

Students learned the proper way to research their topic. They also learned how to prepare to write an essay and how to organize their information.
If you are absent you will need to get the notes from another student/friend. I will be doing reviews before each class since their have been a few absent from school. |

Persuasive Essay Expectations

Today we discussed the expectations for writing a persuasive essay in Social Studies. Students wrote down took notes on what they should and shouldn't do.
Here is the list of expectations:
1. A Well written Thesis Statement
2. Write in the 3rd person not first.
3. No Rhetorical questions
4. Do not make up facts
5. No Anecdotes. Stories should only be about other people. They must also be relevant.
6. Topics should be doable and interesting. |

Community Service introduction

Today we went over the expectations of the Service Learning Projects.
Students are expected to do 30 hours of community service for the entire year (average of 10 hours a Trimester). Each time they do perform a community service task or job they are to turn in a log sheet of their hours with a reflective part. This is a pass fail project. |
