American Government
Successful completion of an American Government course is required by the State of Idaho. This year-long course will introduce students to the philosophies, theories and ideas that created the United States system of government. The class will examine the creation, organization and substance of the Contsitution of the United States. Students will learn the division of roles and responsibilities between our three branches of government. Analysis of political parties, stakeholders, citizen participation, elections, interest groups and the difficulties of balancing government power with individual rights will be discussed. This course will share responsibility with the Senior English course to implement the Senior Project that must be successfully passed for graduation.

Economics
This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of economics. The class will provide a specific definition of economics and explain theories and applications of supply and demand. Students will examine the economy from the perspective of banks, businesses, consumers, and government. Finally, this course will look at economics beyond our borders and explore the global nature of our system. One semester of economics must be passed to complete state requirements for graduation.

Sociology
An elective course which discusses the social environment and how human relationships, human society and social behaviors develop and change over time. Sociology focuses on group dynamics rather than individual behavior. This class studies the behavior of human personalities as well as the effects and development of culture. The class brings into focus the development of social structures, why societies develop in certain ways, how the process of socialization affects both the individual and the group, and how distinctions arise within various societies.
