ClassJump Server Report
posted: March 24, 2015
Lot's of things went wrong but we're still here!
Everyone who uses our free services experienced some bad times for the last couple of months. Many regrets and so sorry to everyone who experienced troubles here. Here's what happened...
We moved our server from North Carolina to Oregon. Imagine two guys in a rental truck packed to the brim with everyone's data and documents. Now imagine the truck breaking down at just about every state line. With that troubling picture in your head, imagine that we left a bunch of stuff in North Carolina and had to go all the way back and get it, with the truck over-heating and somewhere in Oklahoma, we got completely lost.Sounds bad for sure, but that was just the beginning of our troubles...
Once we got everything moved to Oregon, the new ClassJump server wasn't nearly the ideal home pictured in the nice brochure. We had to build a bigger garage, add water-proofing to the attic, level the foundation and add a second story. The biggest problem was, we had sold our previous home in North Carolina already and we had to move everyone in to the new one while construction was underway, with dust everywhere and for a while we didn't even have a roof!We are settled in but still working on some things...
The new server is now mostly stable, but not quite finished. Some services, such as your homework updates by email are still being finished. There are other little glitches here and there that we are still working on as well.I know we disappointed a lot of people with the server down-time you experienced.
It's a terrible feeling to let our ClassJump family of teachers, students and parents down. For the past couple of months there have been many long nights and a lot of regrets. There is little more that can be said than we are very sorry, and we are times ten but WE ARE STILL HERE and committed to serving all of you.Sadly, a lot of teachers felt that they needed to move on and find another way of communicating with their students and parents during our rocky transition. This is obviously understandable. Hopefully, everyone who stayed with us will be kind enough to have a bit more patience as we finish the job for you and make ClassJump better than ever.
Speaking of better than ever....
We have a mobile app coming for both iphone and android! It is one the way and it is amazing! This has been in the works for almost 8 months and we are on the edge of our seats waiting to release this for everyone, and yes it will be free as well.Best Wishes to everyone,
Robert Zimmerman

Yes, there was an inconvenience to many of us, but the service that you have provided so faithfully for so long--and now again, outweighs any lost of service and or data.
I just want to say thank you, and I regret that the major trauma you suffered did not allow you a respite from thinking about us.
My gratitude.

Robert,
I am sorry for your rough journey! My students and I struggled through the tough times with the lack of email updates and lost download posts, but I still cannot tell you how much I appreciate all of your hard work. This site has helped my AP Statistics class achieve success that I could not have imagined otherwise. Thank you again for all of your efforts--I look forward to the mobile app and will not be moving on to any other site other than Classjump.
Sincerely,
Scott DePutron

Mr. DePutron,
Admittedly, I only skimmed the surface of the terrible travails we experienced moving our beloved server 3000 miles, but regardless off all our misfortunes during this transition, I'm so sorry we caused you tough times. You were on our minds every minute of every day. We regret the inconvenience and frustration you experienced. So glad you are still here and believe in what we do as much as we believe in what you do!
BTW - our new APP for mobile really is amazing, I promise - coming to a mobile device near you sooooon!

Thank you for the service that you provide. I told my students when the site was down, that it was their responsibility to copy down homework from the board like it was done in the past. It made them responsible.
Thanks again,

I enjoy your services; however, it has been very rocky for my two classes. We plan on using class jump but will use my website as a back up plan. Do you have any time frame in which you will allow new students to register or reset passwords? I have many students who have yet to gain access with the new code to register for my classes. We do enjoy the services and I would like to personally donate for using this.

Melissa - New students should be able to register now. I suggest they give it a try. So sorry this did not work for SO LONG!!! I know it was TERRIBLE for them and am so sorry for the inconvenience they experienced and any frustration you experienced as well! Student registration should be working now that we are on our new server and the dust has settled...PLEASE have them try again!

Dear Class Jump,
I will not lie, I was considering leaving for a different service--and was in the shopping stages. However, after learning about what you were doing, I am fully committed to staying with you. I wish I could have known or done something to help you in your transition! I am not the best at keeping up to date with your blog--probably why I didn't know about the move. Either way, you have the best site, with the best functionality I have ever seen. I appreciate all you do, and I'm sure you don't get enough praise and support.
Happy coding!

Thank you for letting us know! I wasn't sure what was going on and had started looking for another service. Luckily, classjump is unique, and I couldn't find one that was as easy to use with the same high functionality as this site.
I'm so glad to hear that it was just a temporary glitch.
Thank you so much for the amazing site. I really believe that you are the best thing out there!

Annie,
You're right that we were down again today for longer than we like. Actually we NEVER want to down, but this new server is similar to a new baby - sometimes it starts crying and you just can't figure out why! It also has a habit of keeping it's parents up all night!

As we muddle our way through the technological hit of Smarter Balance testing, I am not one to get upset about a few hiccups! I have also moved across country with overheating and brake issues...life happens! Thanks for the continued support of our efforts as educators. :-)
ClassJump Reply to Tara Bennett:
Good luck to your students on the Smarter Balance Assessments, Tara! I'm sure glad we weren't responsible for all the troubles those have caused! I forgot to mention the four flat tires we had during our move (all at the same time), but didn't want to bore everyone with every minor detail!

Happy to have you back! We had a lot of stressed out students here with so much data loss and then being offline for the last week. All the same, it is a good learning experience for them to SAVE information elsewhere. Thank you for this note, and we look forward to your updates. We hope you will be able to improve the iPhone/iPad interface, as posting from those devices is impossible with more than a couple classes. Also, some of us do need to post in multiple languages, so it would be nice to be able to post just things from a PC, where that is not currently enabled (¡Mil gracias! ¿Cómo estás?
Ich weiß nicht, was das bedeutet ).
Thanks!

LORI ! The new APP we will be releasing works on an IPAD like a charm! I'm sure you'll love it once we get it out there! Posting in multiple languages - as far as I know - is eccentric to the PC itself (the keyboard really). We see a lot of foreign languages here and they all post without a problem, but these users are all on machines that are enabled for those languages. Thanks for you kind words of support!

I have used this service for over 7 years now and it has truly saved my little ADD life. I don't use the email feature, so that was no big deal. Thank you guys for this awesome service and don't let the disgruntled get you down. Easy come, easy go.
And I loved your technical glitches set to parable. For that alone I love you.

My students, parents and I love Classjump and have come to depend on it. I just realized the HW updates weren't working but this was just one more way for students to look it up, not meant to be in place of. Last night was the first time I had a major glitch trying to access it and couldn't upload a file my students were looking for. I reminded them this is an extra for them and that what we get is great, especially since it's free. Keep up the good work and I hope things smooth out for you.

I too was considering looking for another site to use. However, I had been too busy to look and didn't want to have to start another web page for my classes. I was hoping and praying that whatever was wrong would soon be fixed. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for such an easy site for me to post assignments for my classes. I am sooooo thankful you posted an update to what has been going on with your site. Sorry for all the problems you have had, and I understand. Yes, I was upset that I had a ton of class assignment updates lost, but that is nothing compared to your headache of moving all our stuff. Teachers DO appreciate all you have done for us and are greatful when we can find free sites to use for our classes. Again, THANK YOU and keep up the great work.

Thank you for working so hard to keep ClassJump up and running and for your efforts to improve the service. This school year is the first time I've used an online service to communicate with my students and I've been very happy with Classjump. I (and my students) appreciate the absence of advertising as well. Thank you again for what you do!
Mr. Jeffrey Saunders March 30, 2015
Just imagine you are about to be observed by your principal. You have stayed up all night to plan your wonderful lesson. The next day, the teacher ahead of you just jammed the copier by making transparencies and it melted in the machine. You got to option number 2 and plan to use the overhead but the bulb burned out and there is no replacement. Therefore, you make plans to back everything up and move your students to the smart board lab and once you get there and start everything up. You hear a grinding sound and the bulb goes out. Your final option, which you place everything on classjump and move your lessons to the remaining laptop computers and find out some student uploaded a program from their unauthorized email and give your system a virus. However, the show must still go on......This is the everyday life of a teacher....Keep doing what you are doing........
