English at Woodbury High School!
An expectation of colleges and universities is that you will bring the ability to synthesize your thinking into new ways. In both AP Literature and Composition and English 12, we embarked on the process of researching topics this week. It will feel like a long and difficult challenge. However, I can tell you from my own experience that what you will gain will benefit you throughout the rest of your educational careers. My favorite day in class is when you hand your thick written and well-researched paper and all of its components to me to be graded. I love seeing the relief, the pride, and the satisfaction in my students' faces. I know you will do an awesome job!!! Swailsie
AP Literature and Composition
To quote the AP College Board's description of the course: "Reading...should be both wide and deep. It will include the in-depth reading of texts drawn from multiple genres, periods, and cultures...Students should read deliberately and thoroughly, taking time to understand a work's complexity, to absorb its richness of meaning, and to analyze how that meaning is embodied in literary form." Further, related to composition: "Writing will focus on the critical analysis of literature." I am excited to be the guide on this literary journey!
English 12 A/B/C
This course includes literature selections
from around the world with an emphasis on British writers. Student writing concentrates on academic writing including literary analysis and argumentation. Speaking, listening, and language are integrated throughout the course. |
