Speech
R.O. Nelson Elementary
Welcome To Speech.
The development of effective communication skills are important for all students and can have an impact on their educational success. My role as the Speech Pathologist is to work with the students and teachers to address all speech and language needs.

Areas that may be affected include but are not limited to:
Articulation- Sound errors
Recetive Language- How well language is understood.
Expressive Language- How well a student communicates their needs.
Fluency-stuttering, such as sound and word repetitions, hesitations and prolongations.
Voice-problems with pitch, volume or quality.

I received both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Hampton University and I have been working as a Speech Language Pathologist for almost 20 years. I also received a certificate for Augmentative and Alternative Communication from Cal State-Northridge School of Disabilities and I've been formally trained in PECS and TEACCH.

I've worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centers and private companies and I've covered all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics; but I've found the school-age child to be the most rewarding.

If you have questions or concerns about any of the areas mentioned above, please feel free to contact me at tarita.stonewall@nn.k12.va.us or 886-7783, x 46570.
