Welcome back! I am very excited to have you in my class and look forward to meeting you in November. I am out on maternity leave with my new daughter, Elina. I know we have a lot of work to do, but you are in excellent hands with Mrs. White.

This course is a rigorous college course designed for students who are serious in developing their talent and a college portfolio. All work completed during the year must be saved in order to evaluate each student's progression.

The PORTFOLIO is a representation of your mastery in the concept, composition and executions of their ideas. In studio classes, students explore and develop their personal interests and ideas, and develop an individual artistic voice/style for their end of the year PORTFOLIO.

The portfolio consists of 3 sections; Breadth, Concentration and Quality works.

BREADTH will be completed during the first semester.
In the Breadth section students will experience a variety of concepts and approaches to media, problem solving, and ideation. Students will explore mark making, and the use of color and value to develop their ideas and compositions. Students will also study Western and non-Western approaches to making art. They will experiment with traditional and non-traditional techniques and media. The Breadth process will be documented in journals through reflection sand self-evaluations.

CONCENTRATION: Students will transition into more open-ended and exploratory work for the Concentration section of the portfolio during the 2nd semester.

In the Concentration section, students develop a body of work,12 pieces or art based on a strong underlying visual idea in drawing and grows from a coherent plan of investigation. Each student will provide and present an outline of their plan to the teacher and class.

This class will be teaching the basic art skills. You will focus on the PRINCIPLE & ELEMENTS of design and learn to create artwork using them.

You will need to be patient with yourself and allow yourself to think "outside the box". You will expand your mind to become more creative and inventive in some ways when your skill has not been perfected. YET!!!

Be ready for the journey.... practice will make you better and for some.... EXCELLENT!
