WHAT'S BUZZING IN MRS. ROMANO'S CLASSROOM...
2nd graders in Room 27 continue to be very busy! Students are increasing their organization and time management skills as we work hard to meet the academic rigor of our standards. Thank you for sending your children in ready to learn!
Memory may be the most important skill for learning. The following website link provides lots of memory building activities in fun and challenging ways for children (and adults!) Have your child try it out!
-Get a good night's sleep.
-Eat a healthy breakfast.
-Pack a nutritious snack/lunch.
-Bring your home folder to school every day.
-Do all of your homework.
-Read and practice math facts each night.
-Fill in your reading log each night.
-Wear sneakers for gym on Fridays.
-Keep hands and feet to yourself.
-Use kind words and good manners.
-Follow classroom and school rules.
We have begun Unit 8 which includes target skills such as fractions, probability, and measurement conversions.
Many students continue to show improvement in their math fact automaticity. Continue to practice both addition and subtraction facts to sums of 18...the hard work is paying off!
This spring we will be incorporating our science and social studies topics into our shared and guided reading lessons. We continue to work on increasing fluency and reading pace through stories and poetry as well as teaching and practicing comprehension skills on both literal and analytical levels. Be sure to talk to your children about stories, books, movies, and TV shows to encourage them to think on higher levels.
Insects, insects everywhere! This is our science kit topic this spring. We will be learning about the insect world and witnessing the phases of a butterfly's life. Comparing and contrasting are among the skills we will be focusing on as we expand our knowledge of insects.
This spring we will learn about various habitats with special attention to the rainforest. There's so much to learn about this fascinating habitat including geography, animal and plant life, and connections we have to the rainforest in our everyday lives.
