Welcome to Biology 2010-2011. We are looking forward to meeting you. Nancy L. Remakel Course Description: Biology is the science that studies living things. This course will include laboratory and inquiry work, as these are an essential part of student learning. The course objective is to have the learner understand biological concepts, theories and principles through investigation and analysis of cells, organisms, and ecosystems. Areas of study include: the nature of science, cell theory, mechanisms of heredity, biological change over time, interdependence of organisms, material cycles, energy flow in living systems, homeostasis in human systems, viruses, and historical significance of major scientific advances.

Environmental Science
Course Description: Environmental scientists study how humans interact with their environment and the consequences of such interactions. Throughout this course you will explore the work of environmental scientists, examine environmental issues and participate in decision making processes as they apply to humans and the environment. During this course you will examine your uses of energy, your contribution to air and water pollution, your production and handling of wastes, societies dealing with environmental situations, and the biodiversity of life.
