Art class is a time of experimenting, creating, discovering and solving problems.
Wow! What a great way to spend time every day. Welcome to 2012-13.
Open your eyes, your heart and your mind and let the journey begin---

AP2D Art

AP2D Art Class allows students to experience different mediums and analyze different styles of art while creating a portfolio for AP College Board. Each student will examine a chosen topic or theme to create a “Concentration” of 12 pieces of art.  Another 12 pieces of art for the portfolio called “Breadth” will come from class assignments as well as assignments from previous art classes representing the Elements and Principles of Design.

This AP class is only one of four in the district chosen to go to the Modern Art Museum three times during the year to explore the current art exhibit and study with a professional artist for the day. We also attend the National Portfolio Day in Dallas allowing students to show their portfolios to top colleges in the nation for feedback and receive information about the various colleges and universities.

Painting 2 & 3

Painting 2 and 3 classes will teach the students different painting styles and painting mediums while exploring works from the past and present. We will use acrylic paint, watercolor, oil pastel, oil paint and chalk pastel.

Photography 2

Photography 2 classes teach students to see the world around them in a whole new way. Students will learn to capture images digitally as well as with a pinhole camera that each student will make. They will also learn about editing digital photos with computer software according to the Principles and Element of Design and to develop photos in the darkroom the “old fashion way”. Photography is a very rewarding art form and something each student can practice for a lifetime!

Photography 3

Photography 3 classes are available to students who have already had Art 1 and Photography 2. These students will examine works of past and present photographers and create a “mini concentration” in preparation for AP College Board. This concentration gives a student an opportunity to examine a particular subject matter or theme while creating 6 images about that theme. Some students at this level go ahead and submit a completed portfolio to College Board. This class will not only work with digital images but also with 35mm and Holga cameras developing film and printing photos in the darkroom. We will also explore alternative processes of photography.
