8th Grade FCS Exploratory is a 6-week course designed to introduce students to all aspects of Family and Consumer Sciences. Students in 8th grade will be exploring topics in Nutrition and Food Preparation. Students will learn how to select healthy foods, keep them safe and work safely in the kitchen. Teamwork will be emphasized in lab work situations.

Foods 2 is the second semester foods class offered at Newell-Fonda, you must take Foods 1 before taking Foods 2. Students will review the five nutrients and their role in wellness. Students will also become experts in food safety and sanitation practices as well as meal planning. A major part of the course will also be laboratory experiences as students learn food preparation techniques.

Students will be graded on classroom participation, written assignments and laboratory performance. Assessments will be administered periodically during units, at the end of each unit, and the end of the semester. This may include quizzes, test, projects or labs.

This is a semester course designed to help students acquire practical tools for understanding, managing and making wise decisions about relationships. The course will cover self-awareness, communication, dating, marriage and family. The students will have the opportunity to take the Real Care Baby home during the marriage unit. Students will be assessed periodically using quizzes, tests, and projects, during the duration of the course.
