Anatomy and Physiology
A deep and natural curiosity about the wonders of the human body make Anatomy and Physiology a fascinating course.

This semester we will delve into developing a deeper, conceptual understanding how our body parts are put together into systems and the dynamic nature of how these systems work and interact.

Addditionally, we will take a comparative anatomy approach by looking at body system development in other animals.

This will provide a comprehensive introduction to and foundation in Anatomy and Physiology that is useful for any one interested in animals, the artist wanting to better understand forms and particularly helpful for those interested in pursuing studies in
medical fields.

Welcome!
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

I AM ASKING YOU TO KEEP AN ORGANIZED NOTEBOOK FOR THIS CLASS
I WILL CHECK IT RANDOMALLY AND PERIODICALLY FOR A NOTEBOOK GRADE. (100 points-10 points each check)

Root Word list/Anatomy Terms (keep in front of notebook)

Units of Study: (This will be updated throughout the semester)

The Human Body, an Orientation-150 points
Regional Terms poster/practice (25 points)
Chapter 1 Study guide/Homeostasis/Nurse McDril-body systems (50 points)
Hello Mr. Jello/Fetal Pig –orientation and directional terms activity (25 points)
Reading-“Medical Imaging-Illuminating the body”-D.Y.R. (25 points)
Homeostatic Control Mechanisms-Positive and Negative Feedback
Body organization-atoms, molecules, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems
Stem Cell Reading (25 points)

Basic Chemistry- As with all unit packets-Keep in your notebook (we will refer to this chapter as the course proceeds, it is especially important for better understanding Physiology)

Introduction to Systems in Sync-for each system we study you will receive a diagram showing how the system relates to the other body systems. The assignment for these is to write a summary, in your own words, of the relationships. This is important in emphasizing how the body is a dynamic composite of independent parts. (200 points (20 points each-if we cover fewer than 10 systems this will be worth fewer points)

For some of the systems, such as the cardiovascular system, we will compare our system to that of other animals-through dissection and/or models

Immune System-Non-specific and specific responses 200 points
Blood typing activity (15 points)
Lymphatic System Packet (50 points)
Immune system notes/game (include case study) (100 points)
Immune System continued
Osmosis Jones-character notes/summary (15 points)
Systems in Sync paragraph (20 points)

Cardiovascular System (220 points)
Cardiovascular System-Overview- Notes/Diagrams
Calcium and Contraction-Physiology of Muscle contraction
Effects of Exercise on the Cardiovascular system/Blood Pressure (35 points)
Evoultion of Vertebrate Circulatory system activity (dissection? Or models) (25 points)
“Something the Lord Made” video/summary (25 points)
Cardiovascular System disorders project (100 points)
Reading/Article D.Y.R (15 points)
