♩♩♩♫ Start working on your "Tone Quality" ♩♩♩♫

How? Play a "Concert" F for 4 counts (whole notes) at a time. Need a beat or tempo? Use the second hand on a clock ⌚ if you do not have a metronome. (or click here metronome) Set metronome on 60.

Flutes, Oboe, Bassoon,Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Bells----F
Clarinet, Trumpet-----G (Clarinets use open G with right hand down)
Alto Saxophone-----D
French Horn-----C

While you are doing this make sure that your fingers are relaxed and close to the keys or valves. Check your posture.

What to listen for? Make sure that you have a clear, clean tone that is full. This needs to happen all 4 counts from the beginning of the note to the very end of the note.

Need Music? You can use your fingering chart at the back of your book from last year. To do this exercise, start on your "Concert" F and go up (ascending) on each note (Chromatic Scale). Hold each note for 4 counts (whole notes) and you can put 4 counts of rests in between each note. You can also go down (descending).

Percussion you may do this same exercise on your bells working on even rolls.

♩♩♩♩ The great news about this exercise is that it only takes a few minutes and you will improve your tone, range and endurance making you and your band more successful. ♩♩♩♩

If you would like more musical things to do go here: music theory or dsokids
