| Welcome to Kindergarten! |
We have less than 25 days left in this school year! Can you believe your child has almost completed their first year of school??
The next school year holds a lot of changes. With the new school opening we're losing several hundred students and more than 20 teachers from ELA. If you're family is being rezoned to attend the new school rest assured that there will be plenty of familiar faces! In fact, Ms. Fry recently learned that she will be teaching 1st grade at the new school! I will be rolling up to 1st grade as well next year, I'm hoping to keep as many of my current students as possible but the class size maximum is 18 and we have 21 students remaining so some students may be placed in other classes. The 1st grade team Principal Brown has put together for next year looks really strong so no matter what happens I'm confident everyone will end up with a phenomenal 1st grade teacher!
We will hold an end of the year class awards ceremony and presentation on Thursday May 28th, 2009 from 9:00 am-9:45 am. This will recognize each students' hard work and celebrate our successful year together! Please plan on being there!
With all of this Swine Flu talk we are reminded how important it is to keep ourselves and our classroom clean and healthy. We've re-taught handwashing lessons as well as personal hygiene practices. We've discussed germs, bacteria, viruses, and how they affect us. We've got plenty of hand soap and hand sanitizer but we could use more sanitizing wipes to clean the desks and a can or two of lysol disinfectant spray to help keep common areas clean!
Below you will notice a new calendar link. In this are I've listed out all activities and events on the books at ELA for the rest of this school year. Please click on that link to see what we've got going on!
Every year parents ask me what they can do over the summer to help prepare their child for first grade so I'm currently working on putting together a summer activities packet to help with that task. It will include a list of kindergarten and first grade sight words, first grade standards, a summer activities calendar, a book log, suggested summer reading books, and potentially a supply list. It will be sent home during the last week of school.
-Please have students to school on time on Friday's as we have P.E. at 9:15 a.m.
Also, there were several weeks on the Fun Friday sign up sheet that were left blank. I will list them below and if you didn't get a chance to sign up at open house or you'd like to send in Friday snacks one of these days just let us know!

Homework consists of worksheets and activities put together to review skills and strategies learned throughout the year. It will be sent home each Monday. Please complete and return it by Friday.
