Greetings! Welcome to 7th grade reading! My name is Mrs. Smice. I look forward to working with all students to help make them a better reader! Below you will find information about my class that is important to know:
Homework: Homework is expected to be turned in on time. Late assignments will only be accepted for TWO days after the original due date. The highest grade that can be earned on a late assignment is a "C," although the grade may be lower than a C if the assignment was completed incorrectly or poorly.
Reading log/monthly book projects: Each month your child will have a reading log to complete. the number of pages required will be determined at a later time. Please encourage your child to read 30 minutes EVERY SCHOOL NIGHT. In addition to the reading log, your child will also have a monthly book project to complete. The directions for the projects will be handed out at the same time as the reading log, and will also be found under "downloads" on this website. I will be taking students to the library every two weeks to check out books. The public library has an awesome young adult section. Please take your child there, too!
Extra credit: Students will have the opportunity to earn 10 points of extra credit each quarter by completing a book talk. At the end of the quarter any missing assignments will result in the loss of extra credit. The purpose of extra credit is to help raise a grade, not take the place of completing assignments.
Book orders: I will hand out monthly book order forms. Students are under NO OBLIGATION to purchase books. I do want to provide the opportunity to get books into the hands of students. If you choose to order, please fill out the order form indicating which books you would like to order and place money (cash or check- made payable to the book order club) in an envelope and return it to school with your child. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for books to arrive.
