Run-On Sentence Activity and Revise your Compare and Contrast Essays (homework)

Students began the revision step of the writing process today. Revision is what good writers do to make their writing better. During class today, students re-read their essays and added words or phrases to make their writing sound better. Also they eliminated anything that did not make sense or that made their writing sound too wordy.
Students were given a mini lesson today about run-on sentences and how to fix them in their writing. They also were to complete a practice handout, which will allow them extra practice for fixing run-on sentences. |

| Students are beginning to write a compare and contrast essay. This requires going through the steps of the writing process: plan, write, revise, edit, publish. We are currently on step 1 of the writing process, plan. Students are creating a graphic organizer in which they are taking notes on the two subjects they are comparing and contrasting. Today students learned how to write a thesis statments, so they are expected to have a thesis statement for their compare and contrast essays tomorrow. I will show them how to fill out the introduction and conclusion part of their graphic organizers, but they must have thesis statement ready. In tomorrows lesson I will show the class how to write their introduction paragraph. |
