"What a lark! What a plunge!"
updated November 17, 2008
Having finished the pairing of Flaubert's "Madame Bovary" and Barnes' "Flaubert's Parrot," this week we'll begin our foray into Modernism with Virginia Woolf's novel, "Mrs. Dalloway." (Students' revisions of their most recent essay are due this Friday, November 21st).

We'll be reading Woolf's novel together in class with special focus on understanding stream-of-consciousness both as a literary method and as a hallmark of Modernism. Students will be encouraged to finish this challenging novel on their own over the Thanksgiving Break. We will then return to the opening an "re-read" the novel together in the weeks following our return.
