I've had some questions about the next Western Europe meeting. The next official meeting will be in January some time. Your parents will be invited to attend. The date of this meeting will be settled some time in December.
There has also been a question raised about fundraising and spending money. Check the message board for this class here on Classjump to see more details.

Optional Excursions
June 26, 2010
|
 |
Optional excursions (not included in price. See Message board for overview):
Canterbury and Dover Castle - $110 (A journey to Canterbury, the destination city of Chaucer’s pilgrims in the legendary Canterbury Tales. Visit the town’s magnificent Gothic cathedral [the seat of the Church of England] and see where four of the King Henry II's knights murdered Archbishop Thomas Becket in 1170 as part of a long-running debate over church and state. The excursion also includes a visit to stately Leeds Castle. Surrounded by rolling countryside, this was a favorite estate of Henry VIII.)
Versailles - $70 (Most recommended by Mr. Cheney. Visit the palace built by Louis XIV, the "Sun King," and lived in by him and his two successors, Louis XV and Louis XVI, along with the ladder Louis' wife, Marie Antoinette. At one point, 1,000 nobles were attended by 4,000 servants inside the palace, while 15,000 soldiers and servants inhabited the annexes. The famous Hall of Mirrors [look up pictures] is the section of the palace where Louis convinced much of the French population that he was indeed the Sun King [think of the brilliant light produced by the sun's reflections off the mirrors], and was where the Germans begrudgingly sat at a table with the victorious Allied Powers to sign the Treaty of Versailles, officially ending World War I [and unofficially causing World War II]. Yeah, a lot of history.)
Barcelona Flamenco Evening - $70 (A music/dance performance. Youtube it for examples.) |
