Ms. Hansen's Seventh Grade English Class
This course is designed to teach seventh grade students fundamental literary skills, including reading comprehension techniques, writing styles, forms, and templates, as well as grammatical structures.
• The course will encompass five main units of study, which include the following themes: 1) text structures; 2) components of expository/persuasive texts; 3) literary response/analysis; 4) elements of functional documents; 5) drama research/response.
• Students will read a variety of texts, and they will learn to respond by writing summaries, commentary, and narratives.
• There will be four major writing assignments that the students must accomplish. These include a narrative/autobiographical piece, a theme or character analysis, a persuasive research paper, and a dramatic piece.

September 7, 2010 is the first day of school for Horace Mann Middle School students. First period begins at 7:15 a.m., while sixth period ends at 2:12 p.m.
Seventh Grade English Intervention: Period 3
Seventh Grade English: Gate Cluster: Period 5
THIS COURSE WILL ENCOMPASS FIVE MAIN UNITS OF STUDY: 1) TEXT STRUCTURES; 2) COMPONENTS OF EXPOSITORY/PERSUASIVE TEXTS; 3) LITERARY RESPONSE/ANALYSIS; 4) ELEMENTS OF FUNCTIONAL DOCUMENTS; 5) DRAMA RESEARCH/RESPONSE. STUDENTS WILL READ A VARIETY OF TEXTS, AND THEY WILL LEARN TO RESPOND BY WRITING SUMMARIES, COMMENTARY, ETC. STUDENTS WILL ACCOMPLISH FOUR MAJOR WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: FICTIONAL/AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL NARRATIVE, THEME/CHARACTER ANALYSIS, PERSUASIVE RESEARCH PAPER, AND A DRAMATIC PIECE.
