Hello Scholars! My name is Ms. Fuemmeler and this is my third year at Moberly High School. I studied History and Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, and love learning more about our country's history and government. In addition to teaching, I'm also the head coach of the Lady Spartan Softball Team, and an assistant Track coach. Each week I will post our upcoming assignments and lesson plan on ClassJump. You will be able to find worksheets, homework, review guides, and other important information. This is the best place to discover what's happening in Room 503! A.P. U.S. History
The AP U.S. History (APUSH) course is a 2-semester preparation for students to take the annual College Board AP exam. This course will prepare you for an entry or intermediate level college course in American History, thus it requires higher level thinking skills. During the course you will learn to assess historical materials both in their relevance, their reliability, and their importance. You will weigh evidence and interpretations in historical scholarship. You will use primary sources and scholarly materials on a regular basis. By the end of the year you will possess the skills necessary to arrive at conclusions on the basis of an informed judgment and present reasons and evidence clearly and persuasively in an essay.

In addition to all of these skills you will travel with your classmates through exploration in the New World to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Not only will you study the simple facts, dates, places, and people of history you will focus on themes throughout history to draw conclusions from each era. Be prepared for a journey of high expectations, hard work, and reward.

If you need additional study practice, please check out the textbook online resouces at Bailey: American Pageant. These practice tests will help you prepare for weekly quizzes and the AP Exam.

Historial Research is a critical component of A.P. U.S. History. Students are expected to complete a 8-10 page research paper during the course using MLA citations. The MLA Format Guide: Purdue OWL provides a guideline for these citations.
American Government
All sophomores enroll in American Government during the 1st semester of their sophomore year. Government in a required class at MHS and requires students take the Missouri End-of-Course Exam at the end of the semester.

In Government students will learn about the principles and types of government in society, examine and explain the origins of American government, describe and explain the principles of the Constitution in terms of concepts, examine the role of Federalism and the powers it gives the Federal government, analyze the power of state governments, describe the various structures of local government and their impacts on citizens, and become well informed American citizens
American Studies
Students will learn about American History from Pre-Colonial times through the Reconstruction of the South after the Civil War. During this course students will be required to read and analyze both primary and secondary sources, as well as draw conclusions from prior knowledge regarding American History. This course will focus on Pre-Colonial times, the American Colonies, War for Independence, Launching a New Nation, Balancing Nationalism and Sectionalism, Reform, Westward Expansion, Union in Peril, The Civil War, and Reconstruction.
Connections
In 9th grade Connections students will gain the individual and small group attention to help them succeed in high school. By connecting with a teacher students have a valuable resource on their side. Hopefully the relationships built in Connections will enable Moberly students to learn the necessary skills to give them a choice when they graduate.
