CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MINNESOTA SCHOLASTIC ART AWARD WINNERS!! This year over 1900 works were submitted thorughout the state. It was East Ridge's first year of participation in this event and our AP: Studio Art students did FABULOUS!!! Silver Award Winners: Katie Thoreson and Jenny Zhu Honorable Mention Winners: Gwen Riemenschneider, Jake Sullivan and Jenny Zhu The Gallery Ceremony and Exhibit will be held at the College of Visual Arts,St. Paul.
Advanced Placement (AP) Art

DRAWING A
10, 11 or 12 0021T 1 term, 1 credit (Successful completion of this course meets one of the two fine arts credit requirements.) This course is offered to students who are interested in learning about the basics of quality artwork using digital photography as a medium, as well as creating images that have visual impact. Students will learn the Elements and Principles of Design with an emphasis on composition. Throughout the course, we will also cover the basics of digital photography including vocabulary and camera/computer function. Students will be introduced to the history of photography, descriptive analysis of student/professional work, student presentations, class critiques, and the work of influential photographers. Students will learn to develop and expand their aesthetic perception. They will use Photoshop to learn basic digital imaging while also learning to enhance some of their photographic work. The students will create photographic images that will be suitable for working toward an AP studio art 2-D portfolio.

Graphic Design
Discover how to create posters, CD covers, children's books, magazine cover illustrations, t-shirt designs, business logos, and calligraphy. Students will work from concept to design to the finished product. This course will provide an opportunity for students to create many projects that could be used to build a portfolio of finished work for the commercial art field.

This course combines the latest computer technologywith college level art design training. Student will learn the basics, digital imaging and computer concepts thorugh the use of Adobe Photoshop. This course is designed to give students the opportunity to explore and prepare for careers in computer graphics, graphic design and layout and digital imaging. This course is offered to students who are interested in creating images that have visual impact. Students will learn the Elements and Principles of Design with an emphasis on composition and intent. Students will learn to develop and expand their aesthetic perception as they understand visual imagery as it pertains to technology and mass media communication. This course will provide an opportunity for students to build a portfolio that will be suitable for working toward an AP studio art 2-D portfolio as well as a career in the Graphic Arts.
