Welcome :-)
Welcome to Ms. Carter's class. We have a very important year ahead of us. The goal of this class is to allow students the opportunity to learn important scientific concepts in their two semesters. You will gain a deeper understanding of the concepts in preparation for other science classes. Chemistry and/or Earth/Space is a fun, but challenging subject. Because of this, I will require more attention during class and more time outside of class. I look forward to an outstanding school year with you!!
Chemistry Pre-IB
Chemistry Pre-IB is a laboratory science course in which students investigate the composition of matter and the physical and chemical changes it undergoes. Students use science process skills to study the fundamental structure of atoms, the way atoms combine to form compounds, and the interactions between matter and energy. Students explore chemistry concepts through an inquiry-based approach. Embedded standards for Inquiry, Mathematics, and Technology & Engineering are taught in the context of the content standards for Atomic Structure, Matter and Energy, and Interactions of Matter.

Earth/ Space Science
Earth/Space Science is a course focusing on the study of space, geologic structures and forces, the waters on our planet, and the atmospheric forces that shape our world. Through experimentation and investigation, students will explore the earth cycles including the geosphere, hydrosphere, crysosphere, atmosphere, and the carbon cycle. Students will learn about scientific inquiry, geologic time, space exploration, the solar system, and the universe. Upon completion of the course, students will have a clear understanding of the dynamic forces at work in the world around them, becoming better caretakers of our planet, Earth.
