It is a pleasure to welcome students to DMS for the 2012-2013 school year, and it is especially a pleasure to welcome my 7th grade  English classes. After the last couple of days meeting new students, I am excited about the days ahead. We have started this week by pretesting all classes. This will give us an idea of where we need to place emphasis.
     The 7th grade English department looks forward to reading The Giver by Lois Lowry in October. Please prepare in advance by securing this book for your child. Possible ways to get the book include

• used books from previous 7th graders,
• online books
• local bookstores (Books-A-Million)

     Our first lesson will be about "Roots and Affixes." A power point presentation will be attached that will introduce "Roots and Affixes." Use it as a jumping off point for our study.
