Note From Your Teacher
I hope you will be able to share with us on Friday, May 11th as Kindergarten “hosts” the annual May procession in honor of the Blessed Mother. The program will begin at 10:45 am. After the program we will celebrate YOU with our “Mother’s Day Ice Cream Social”. There will be an opportunity to order a pizza lunch on your child’s lunch order form next week. You may decide to pack your lunch instead. The “social” will probably last for one hour. That is not including the May procession. I know many of you work and I am trying to give you a time frame for the activities. It is a very special time together and we do want to honor both Jesus’ mother and all of you for the important role you play in your child’s life. We do want to make this a special time for you and your child in kindergarten. Space is very limited. We ask that younger siblings not attend the “Ice Cream Social”, if at all possible.
The Dress for the day – Your child will wear Sunday type clothes for the procession and social. They will wear their outfits to school that day. They should wear school sneakers. Please send flowers from your garden or pick up some cut flowers from the market for your child to carry in the procession. We look forward to a very special day!
I wanted to remind you that we will be going to Renfrew Institute for Environmental study on Tuesday, May 29th. Permission slips will be found in folders next week. It will be an all day field trip. It is a wonderful “hands on” experience in a beautiful setting. The bus will leave school at 8:45 am and return at 2:30 pm. You are welcome to meet us at the park to help chaperone the field trip.
Monday: No School!
Tuesday: Handwriting Pages 47 and 91. Review of Letters Ll, Ii, Tt, Rr, Nn, Mm, and Hh
Wednesday: Complete handout in folder

Language Arts: We will continue to listen to the stories Oak Tree, Acorn and Mary, Mary Quite Contrary, and The Sticky-Sticky Pine. The comprehension strategy this week is to recognize the text structure and the skill is to identify the sequence of events. The children will learn the letter and sound of Kk. The children will match ck to the sound of /k/ and blend sounds in words with the /k/ck sound. They will also learn the high frequency words ‘little’ and ‘said’.
Math: We will be learning to pay for items to 25 and 50 cents using nickels, identifying, creating and extending ABC sound and movement pattern and we will be divide objects by sharing.
Religion: Our focus this week will be on Light. The children will learn that Jesus is the light of the world and he calls us to share his light with others.
