October News!
October offers some exciting events and activities. We are getting a visit from the firemen, starting the "Book-It " program, visiting the Meridian Ag. Expo, having Parent/Teacher conferences, plus having a Hoedown and a Harvest Party.
Math
See http://Math Facts Cafe, http://Moneyville, and http://A+ Math for some fun games to try at home.
We will be learning how to tell time to the half -hour, practicing adding doubles, and adding tens and ones.
Reading
Reading in the second grade comes in a variety of forms. We use picture books and chapter books, Narrative and expository text, plays, poems and much, much more! This year we will also explore a variety of genres, the purpose behind why the author wrote the piece, and how we can grow in our own reading ability.
A great site for practicing some of these skills is http://Harcourt Reading
Science
We will work be writing about plants, and starting animal classification with vertebrates.
Skill Sheets
Each week there will be a skill sheet with information about what we are doing in each subject.
This sheet is meant as an informational tool for you, to start a conversation with your child about what he/she learned in school that week, and to keep you informed as what skills we are working on that week.
Social Studies and Geography
This month we will be working on activites including: National Symbols, Laws & Rules and Columbus Day.
Spelling
Here you will find our spelling word lists for the week. Look for the words to come home on Mondays so that you know which list your child will be studying for the week. Please practice each night for our test on Friday.
Spelling City and Kids Spell are two fun sites to practice your words!
