Any reinforcement of these things at home as we are working on them at school will be beneficial to your son/daughter.
Recognizes beginning and ending sounds in words
Identifies medial sound of short"i" and short"a" in simple words
Distinguishes rhyming words.
Read simple sentences.
Recalling stories in sequence
Blends words fluently
Writes ABC’s in order (not focusing on handwriting as much as being able to put all 26 letters in order)
Sounding out three and four letter words
Writing simple words using kindergarten spelling (inventive spelling)
Handwriting to improve from first quarter
Counts numbers to 50
Recognizes numbers to 50
Writes numbers correctly to 50
Recognizing basic shapes and three dimensional shapes
Continue to work on letters and sounds as we learn them
Sight words: we, my, like, he, for, me, with, she, see, and look; AND first quarter’s words: I, am, is, have, the, little, to, and a.
Plus anything your son/daughter did not get a meets expectations for on their report card.
Behavior and social/emotional development will be very important again. Things such as participation, self-control, following directions, working neatly, being responsible for actions and materials, etc. will be just as important as their reading and math skills.
