Basket Theme for St. Angela Merici Festival

As in the past, St. Angela Merici School supports the Parish Festival.  Students are asked to bring in items to fill a basket for the Basket Auction.  The theme for the Level 6 basket is...
English 6
This year we will be using an English series published by Loyola Press. Students will be able to identify the parts of speech in sentences. They will also be able to identify appositives. The material learned in class will be applied to their writing class. Focus will be placed on using the Writing Process to improve writing skills.

There is also an online program, www.loyolapress.com, to enhance the textbook.

English will be taught five days a week. Assessment will be based on homework, class participation, quizzes, and tests.

Students will need a notebook for English this year. You will be responsible for taking notes. This year you will also be taking a midterm and final exam.
English 7
Using the Loyola Press English textbook, students will strengthen their grammar skills. We will study the parts of speech, sentences, phrases, and clauses. In addition, students will be introduced to verbals and how they function in a sentence.

Assessment will be based on tests, quizzes, homework, and class participation.

Students will need a notebook for English this year. You will be responsible for taking notes. This year you will also be taking a midterm and final exam.
English 8
Students will be assessed of their knowledge of grammar using pretests before each new chapter. During the year, they will enhance their grammar skills and apply those skills to their writing.

Assessment will be based on tests, quizzes, writing samples, homework, and class participation.

Students will need a notebook for English this year. You will be responsible for taking notes. This year you will also be taking a midterm and final exam.
Math 6
Using a new textbook, Math Connects, students will reach mastery of all decimal and fraction operations. The will work with percents and develop estimation skills. Concepts of scale and ratio are introduced. Integers will also be introduced.

Students will be assessed on class participation, homework, quizzes and tests. Please note that homework is an important component of their grade. Homework will most likely be assigned daily. I try not to assign homework over the weekend.

Reading 6
Reading 7
Students will be able to identify the various genres of literature. They will be responsible for completing readings in the different genres. We will be using the Prentice Hall Literature textbook. This textbook has some online activities which students will find valuable.
Religion 6
During this year, we will be studying the Old Testament. We will begin with Abraham and continue until we finish with the Prophets. During the year, we will be also focus on the books of the Old Testament.

Assesment will be based on homework and chapter tests. There will be a unit test at the end of each unit.

Throughout the year, all students will be involved in the preparation of school liturgies. Students will select the music and prepare petitions for assigned masses. They will also prepare a communion meditation. We invite you to come and celebrate the liturgy with us. School liturgies are scheduled for Fridays at 9:00 AM.

Spelling/Vocabulary 6
Spelling/Vocabulary 7
Using the Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary series, students will be able to increase their vocabulary skills. They will be responsible for knowing the definition of the word, its correct spelling, and how to use it correctly in a sentence. There will be weekly assessments. Students are encouraged to use the Spelling City website to access their words and do enrichment activities.
