Creative writing is a year-long UC-approved elective. Students will receive an intense writing course which focuses on the steps of the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. Students will be responsible for maintaining and completing a portfolio throughout the year. They will study and practice multiple writing genres including poetry, short stories, memoir, and the essay.
English 11: American Literature
English 116 is a survey of American Literature spanning from the 18th century to modern day. The class looks at issues and ideas that Americans have dealt with since the country was founded and it requires students to deal with these issues head on. In addition, the class prepares students for college-level English classes with a high demand on reading and writing. There is also a great deal of emphasis on public speaking.
English 11: SDAIE
English 11 - SDAIE is designed to give English Learners access to the mainstream curriculum. The focus is on critical reading and thinking skills, and the improvement of students' writing and speaking. Students receive college prep credit and are expected to be college- ready when they pass the class.
