Mr. Murcko's Math Materials

Welcome Mathematicians!
I created this site for a number of reasons. First and foremost, if you miss notes and/or work, it will all be posted right here so you can get it easily. Next, I want this to be a place you can visit to get some extra help if you need it. I will post links to good help sites here that you may use any time. We may take a look at them in class as well so you will be familiar with them. As usual, if you need anything, please let me know and I will do all I can. Happy thinking!
KIPP PRIDE HIGH MATH DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the KIPP Pride High School Mathematics Department is to teach students how to be proactive, productive citizens who possess the wherewithal to navigate any situation they might encounter. Students will learn to use the principles of mathematical laws, logical reasoning, and problem-solving to effectively connect mathematics to all other areas of instruction and ultimately to their own lives.
AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus AB is a college-level course designed to ready students for success on the AP Exam as well as subsequent math courses. Essentially, it is the study of continuous functions beginning with the concept of the limit, then expounding upon that in order to study the derivative and the integral. Technology will be used daily to reinforce the relationship between different functional representations to confirm results, for discovery based activities, and to assist in interpreting results. Students solve problems numerically, algebraically, graphically, and verbally. Successful calculus students are not only highly skilled in mathematical operations, but also possess a deeper conceptual understanding of the material. All students enrolled in the class take the AP exam in May.

Pre AP Calculus
Precalculus consists of the rigorous study of functions, their properties, and their applications, in preparation for an AP Calculus course. Students expand their knowledge of linear, quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions to include power, polynomial, rational, piecewise, inverse, and trigonometric functions. Other topics include right-angle and unit circle trigonometry, sequences and series, matrices, polar coordinates, and probability. Students investigate and explore mathematical ideas, develop multiple strategies for analyzing complex situations, and use graphing calculators and mathematical software to build understanding, make connections between multiple representations, and provide support in solving problems.
