Welcome to Mr. Berin's homepage!

I have been teaching mathematics in WJSHS since 1999. I graduated in 1996 from University at Albany with Master's degree in Math Education. Currently, I am Math Department Chair, MasterMinds coach and photography club advisor.

I currently reside in Bethlehem with my wife and two sons.

Geometry Part II - Seventh Period
Within this course, students will have the opportunity to make conjectures about geometric situations and prove in a variety of ways, both formal and informal, that their conclusion follows logically from their hypothesis. This course is meant to employ an integrated approach to the study of geometric relationships.
Integrating synthetic, transformational, and coordinate
approaches to geometry, students will justify geometric relationships and properties of geometric figures.
Congruence and similarity of triangles will be established using appropriate theorems. Transformations including
rotations, reflections, translations and glide reflections and coordinate geometry will be used to establish and verify geometrics situations. Properties of triangles, quadrilaterals
and circles should receive particular attention. It is intended that students will use the traditional tools of compass and straightedge as well as dynamic geometry software that
models these tools more efficiently and accurately, to assist in these investigations. Students will be
eligible to take the NYS Geometry Regents at the end of the
course.
Calculus - Eighth Period
Calculus is a college level course designed to develop the students’ understanding of the concepts of calculus and to provide experience with its methods and applications. The
course emphasizes a multi-representational approach to
calculus with concepts, results, and problems being expressed geometrically, numerically, analytically, and
verbally. Students will be able to find the limit of a function
or state that it does not exist using algebra and graphs. Students will be able to compute the derivative of different functions. Students will be able to evaluate definite and
indefinite integrals. Additional topics include systems of
equations, sequences and series, vectors and polar coordinates. Homework is assigned every day, except when there is a quiz or test. There will be weekly quizzes and at
the end of a chapter, a chapter test. A student’s final grade
will be comprised of homework, quizzes and tests. Successful students can receive up to 8 HVCC credits for a
fee.
Prerequisite: Precalculus
Integrated Algebra Part II - First Period
This course introduces students to algebraic concepts and techniques that are used in developing problem solving and deductive reasoning skills. Topics include solving and graphing equations andinequalities, factoring, quadratics, ratio and proportion,
percent probability and statistics, areas and perimeters, basic
trigonometry and functions. Students will be
eligible to take the NYS Integrated Algebra Regents at the end of the
course.
Integrated Algebra AE Part II - Second Period
This course introduces students to algebraic concepts and techniques that are used in developing problem solving and deductive reasoning skills. Topics include solving and graphing equations andinequalities, factoring, quadratics, ratio and proportion,
percent probability and statistics, areas and perimeters, basic
trigonometry and functions. Students will be
eligible to take the NYS Integrated Algebra Regents at the end of the
course.
Precalc - Fifth Period
PreCalc - Fifth Period Class
This course is a college course (4 credits through SCCC) designed to prepare students for learning calculus.
Major emphasis is on the concept of functions. The students will study polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions, their properties, graphs and related equations and applications. Additional topics include conics, matrices, systems of equations, sequences and series, and probabilities.
