Welcome!
Hello Students and Families:
Welcome to our course website! We are going to have a wonderful year exploring and investigating many interesting science topics in a manner that engages and promotes hands-on learning. I hope to challenge you to think critically and bring a new level of curioisty to our class community each day. I want to remind students that I am available every day after school for extra help until 3pm! If you have any questions, stop by, or email me at sautieri@mail.east-haven.k12.ct.us. Enjoy! updated September 4, 2012 I WILL NO LONGER BE MAINTAINING AND UPDATING THIS WEBPAGE FOR THE 2012-2013 SCHOOL YEAR! I HAVE MOVED TO A NEW, BETTER WEBPAGE AT: http://teacherweb.com/CT/EastHavenHighSchool/MrAutieri
Level 1 Physical Science-- Period 2--Mr. Autieri
This laboratory course is a logical and comprehensive introduction to chemistry and physics. We explore the properties of matter, transfer of energy and transformations, the changing Earth, and science and technology in society (STS) as we ask the questions: 1) How does the structure of matter affect the properties and uses of materials? 2) What is the role of energy in our world? 3) How do materials cycle through the Earth's systems? 4) How do science and technology affect the quality of our lives?

Selected Topics in Science--Period 6--Autieri/LaPenna-Polvan
Offered in two segments, the first part of the course addresses mini-units in science through a hands-on manner. The physics of forces and motion are explored with egg-drop competitions, balloon racers, Rube Goldberg machines, simple machines, hot wheel ramps, and engineered mouse-trap cars. Experimental design will be explored through guided inquiry-based research projects and group discussion.
