French I A
Students will learn appropriate French vocabulary for greetings and leave-takings; describing one’s home, family, clothing, food, classroom objects, animals, and places using adjectives as appropriate; and conducting conversations in areas related to the speaking skills noted below.
Students will use novice speaking skills in carrying on conversations about one’s self (name, place of residence, appearance, age, health, etc.); demonstrating knowledge of time (i.e., clock time, days, months, seasons, etc.); demonstrating knowledge of basic weather conditions; identifying likes and dislikes; and counting to one million. Students will demonstrate writing skills in all of the above areas. This class is open to students in grades 9-12.
French I B
Students will continue to expand their vocabulary as they speak and write using the present tense and its forms; identify French speaking countries throughout the world and food associated with those countries; and demonstrate knowledge of the French public education system and the French monetary system.
Students in this class will also learn about certain French literary figures and their works. This class is open to students in grades 9-12.
French II A
Students will expand communication skills in present tense, both orally and in writing; use possessive and demonstrative object pronouns; use vocabulary associated with shopping, finding one’s way around, and discussing leisure activities; demonstrate knowledge of the French metro system;demonstrate knowledge of selected French artists and their works; and read and discuss items of French realia.
This class is open to students in grades 10-12.
French II B
Students will continue to communicate in present tense while also learning to communicate in the past tenses, both orally and in writing; use direct object and indirect object pronouns; use vocabulary associated with shopping, finding one’s way around, and discussing leisure activities; demonstrate knowledge of selected French artists and their works; and read and discuss items of French realia.
This class will also learn about the French Revolution and the Hundred Years War. This class is open to students in grades 10-12.
French III A
This course is the third level in the French language sequence. Students will work extensively on the spoken language - working with various verb tenses in everyday situations. They will continue to work on understanding written and audio/video materials and the cultural differences between France and the United States.
This class is open to students in grades 11 and 12.
French III B
Students will continue to work on the spoken language - working with an increasing number of verb tenses. They will also continue to work on understanding written and audio/video materials and the cultural differences.
Students will demonstrate recognition of well-known landmarks in Paris and present detailed information on a French-speaking city of his/her choice. This class is open to students in grades 11 and 12.
French IV A
Students will expand their knowledge of both French vocabulary and verb tenses, using them in creative speaking and writing contexts. They will use the new vocabulary and verb tenses to read and discuss French literary selections.
Students in French IV will develop their speaking abilities as they further explore leisure activities in France. This class is open to students in grade 12.
French IV B
Students will expand their knowledge of both French vocabulary and verb tenses, using them in creative speaking and writing contexts. They will use the new vocabulary and verb tenses to read and discuss French literary selections.
Students will also delve more deeply into French history, creating both a powerpoint for instruction and an interactive game for assessment. This class is open to students in grade 12. |
