Welcome to Mrs. Vines' Classes!
2012 is off to a good start! We have jumped right back into our studies and are learning some really interesting and fun things! We are getting ready to celebrate our special school community with Catholic Schools Week, and we are starting to prepare for events like the Science Fair. The rest of the trimester will pass quickly, so keep those study habits in good shape and keep those grades up!
Please click on the purple-colored links below for ALL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS throughout the year and for further information about the following subjects.
Important MSS Information
5th Grade Social Studies
Currently in Social Studies, we are studying our country's beginnings with the thirteen colonies, which will branch into our discussion of the Revolution and our development as our own nation. It sure was an exciting time!!
We are also completing a brief report about each U.S. president this year! President reports are due each Friday. Students can use the information provided for them in their President packets, as well as information found in other credible sources. Several useful websites can be found using these links: U.S. Presidents - CSPAN, U.S. Presidents - University of Virginia, U.S. Presidents - White House, and U.S. Presidents - History Channel. Try to learn something new with every president!
5th Grade Math
Multiplication facts and algebraic reasoning are becoming more important in our math lessons as we continue through the book. If you are not confident in knowing your multiplication facts, be sure you are practicing! It will be much harder to apply our multiplication skills if we don't know our facts...so be sure you know them!
Be sure to complete your daily homework, any ponders you may receive, and watch for upcoming tests!
7th Grade Social Studies
Social Studies in seventh grade is an exciting subject! We will be discussing World Cultures and Geography - a very large topic. We will be looking in depth at the various governments, economies, religions, histories, resources, climates, cultures, and organizations that make up our world, and at how these different cultures and countries interact with one another to make our world what it is today.
Grades will come from a variety of in-class and at-home assignments, including worksheets, quizzes, tests, and several projects. Students will complete journal entries and reflect on current events articles on a regular basis. All work is expected to be turned in on or by its due date. Handing work in late may result in a reduction of a student's grade by 10% each day past the date on which it was due, and homework never turned in will result in a failing grade for that assignment. I am very much looking forward to working with the seventh grade students to have a fun and educational year! |
