Language Arts:

-Recognizing the long vowel sounds when the pattern is cvce (“silent e”)

-We play a game in which each child gets to be letter.  The students are arranged in a cvce pattern.  Each letter says its sound in order.  But when the vowel goes to say its sound the  e reaches over and pinches the vowel and the vowel says its own name.  That sneaky silent e!!

-Some words have two meanings (date, hand...)

-Review of all Star Words

-Infer means to think about what a character in a story is feeling or thinking even if the text does not say it.

-When we are talking about more than one noun we add “s” to the end of the word

Math:

-Decomposing teen numbers into groups of ten and some ones

-Composing teen numbers by putting together a group of ten and some ones

-Addition and subtraction within 10

-Practice adding and subtracting fluently orally and in writing within 5

-Lots of spring themed games including baseball to help with the above concepts

-Subtraction with Hershey’s Kisses is so much sweeter!  On Fun Friday we will “Kiss Our Brains”  and practice subtraction in a sweet way!

Religion:

-We call Jesus’ family the Holy Family

-Jesus’ family was a lot like our families

-Jesus needed to listen to his parents, do his chores

-Jesus loved his father and mother just like we love our parents

-We will read the story about Jesus in the temple when he was a boy

Social Studies:

-Identify the differences between living in the the city and the country

-Where do things we eat/buy come from?

-What kinds of animal live on the farm?  In the zoo?  Are pets in the city?

Important Details:

*Homework/Show and Tell: Due on regularly assigned Show and Tell day.

-Cut apart the picture and word cards in the BEE Binder.

-Set out the cards, paper and crayons.

-Students use the cards to form a complete sentence starting with a word that has a capital letter.

-Next s/he writes the sentence on the paper and adds punctuation.

-Then the student will read the sentence and draw a picture of it.

-Students may form and illustrate silly or realistic sentences when they put the word cards in order.

-For more detailed sentences you may add words cards such as fast, slow, brown, yellow...

(This is a terrific activity for the summer!)

*Field Trip Information:

-We will leave at 8:30 and return at 12:30 on Thursday.

-We will go unless it is storming at 8:30.

-Students should wear long pants and tennis shoes regardless of the temperature because we will be climbing in the woods.

-Students may wear play clothes.

-We will be using bug spray because there will likely be mosquitoes and perhaps some ticks in the woods.

-If your child has allergies and needs a special kind of bug spray, please send it with a label for use.

-I recommend hats as well for protection from bugs and the sun.

-Please send a change of shoes (not clothes) in case the farm/woods are muddy.

-Students need a snack, a water bottle, a lunch.

-Please label lunches, snacks and water bottles with your child’s name.

-We have enough drivers and seats for the field trip!  Thank you to all our volunteers!

We are looking forward to great week!

God Bless You,

Mrs. Cramer
