Weekly Homework:

-Parents, please read to your child every night.

-Parents, please review Star Words 3 times each day with your child.

-Students, please read the level book that comes home each week to two people and save it in your book box to read later.

Current Events and Homework

Language Arts:

-Review of all consonant sounds and short vowel sounds

-Review of all Star Words

-Looking across a whole word and noticing the final ending of the word

-Marking the short vowel sounds in cvc words

-Reading and making alphabet books

-Writing complete sentences that begin with a capital, end with a punctuation mark and tell a complete idea.

 

Math:

-What makes 10?  (3t__=10, 5t__=10...)

-Recalling addition and subtraction facts within 5

-Decomposition of numbers 11-19 through making an equation of a group of 10 and extra ones

-Making new shapes using two or more other simpler shapes (two triangles can make a square or a diamond)

 

Religion: Mary Our Mother

-Mary is the Mother of Jesus and our mother too.

-We honor Mary and show our love to Mary

-Using the Hail Mary prayer and an introduction to the Rosary

 

Social Studies:

-People have jobs

-Jobs can provide others with goods (manufacturing, cooking...) or with services (taking care of others needs like a fireman or a teacher)

-People have needs and wants; what is the difference between these?

-The money earned from jobs help people take care of their needs and wants

-People need to decide how to spend and how to save their money

-Where do things we buy come from?

 

Important Details:

*Homework and Show and Tell: Due on regularly assigned Show and Tell day.

      -Students will think about what job they would like to have when they grow up.

     -Students will find out what tools and training are needed to have that job

     -Students will find out what people do when they have that job

     -Students will decide if that job provides a good or a service and if   

       that good/service fills a need or a want for others

     -Students will write about the above ideas on the report form    

      provided

     -Students will practice telling about their job and give the report    

      to the class on the assigned Show and Tell day.

     -Students should bring some tools they would use in the job.

     -Students should bring clothes they might wear in the job and will 

       change into or put those clothes over their uniform for Show and

       Tell.

*A BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Bennett who has offered to come tell us about being a firefighter and a paramedic, to Mrs. Bennett who will tell us about being a theater manager, Mr. Clark who will tell us about being a teacher for blind students and Mrs. Coppens Clark who will tell us about being a teacher for Special Needs preschool students!

 

*Mrs. Watt, our Art teacher, has asked that every Kindergarten student bring in a 16.9 oz. water bottle for an art project by Friday, May 17.  Please put your child’s name on the bottom of the bottle.

*Please return the field trip permission form and fee for our Farm visit by Monday, May 20.  We will need drivers for this field trip.  We will leave at 8:30 and return at 12:30 on Thursday, May 23.
