The first semester will be a more in depth coverage of Algebra 1 and at a much faster pace, with the addition of matrices. Second semester we will cover logarighms, trigonometry, rational functions, series and sequences.

This seminar is designed to help students be successful in their regular Algebra 2 class. It affords the opportunity for extra contact time with a math teacher, who can give additional instruction and explanation to the student and reinforce the concepts being taught in the regular Algebra 2 class. Students enrolling in this seminar must be committed and ready to work to improve their performance in their regular class. This class is pass/fail.

Semester one we will cover chapters 1 through six. We will learn the basic vocabulary of Geometry and also learn how to reason using two-column proofs. Semester two we will start with proportions, basic right triangle trigonometry and the Law of Sines and Cosines. We will cover about half of chapter 9(circles) and then we will cover all of chapter 10 and 11, which deals with area of 2-D shapes, and surface area and volume of 3-D shapes. We will review linear equations and factoring, in hopes of improving student success in Algebra 2 next year, and then finish with transformations. There is a distict EOC this second semester.

This class gives students the opportunity to improve their algebra skills while introducing many geometry concepts. My goals include: improved confidence with math, introduction to geometry and ISAT preparation.
