I have been teaching for 26 years, all of these have been at Wolf Branch AND in first grade! After graduating from O'Fallon Township High School, I earned my B.S. in Education from Eastern Illinois University and my Masters in Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

My husband Ed and I have two children. Zachary is a sophomore at Southeast Missouri State and Courtney a junior at Belleville East. I am also proud to say they are both Wolf Branch alumni!

In my "free time" I like to play handbells and flute, root the Cardinals to a victory, shop, and spend time with my family.

The atmosphere in my classroom is to have the most fun possible while learning. Every year, on the first day of school, I read The Little Engine That Could . With the "I think I can" attitude, we can do ANYTHING!!

English

We are working on pronouns.  Pronouns are words that take the place of a noun.  (he, she, it, her, him, they...)

Math

We are currently working on money.  We will be counting different amounts of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.  First graders do a great job counting one type of coin in a row.  The tricky part is when you are adding up two, three, or four different types.  ex:  2 quarters, 2 dimes, and 1 nickel.   There will not be any more math tests this year.

Reading

We are currently working on the story "Simple Machines".  The high frequency words for this story are against, goes, heavy, kinds, and today.  The phonics skills we are working on are the diphthong oi and oy (oil, toy) and the suffixes er and or (painter and sailor).  For the remainder of the school year we are going to continue learning the skills that go along with the stories, but we will not be taking any more reading tests.  :)
