French V (Adv.)
French V is the culminating course in a five-year sequence. The goal of this course is to prepare students for university-level French studies. French V focuses on French literature, art, history, and current events as a means of maintaining fluency and honing the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will read a variety of texts including Le Petit Prince, Le Fantome de l'Opéra and Les Misérables, newspaper and magazine articles, excerpts from books on contemporary and historical issues of the French speaking world, and works of literature including novels, plays, short stories, and poetry of Québec, the Caribbean, Africa, and France. Most of the class time in this course is devoted to student discussion and debate of the topics and issues presented by the class materials, while the teacher serves as a guide and resource to the student-led discussions. In addition, students will regularly write on the themes and characters introduced in the class materials or on topics of general cultural interest, many of which require additional reading and research.

Throughout the course students will regularly use technology via the Imaginez Supersite as well as Mr. Kinne’s classroom network on Ning.
