Mary Leyden at Blackrock Elementary

October is here and you should be familar now with our reading bag system. Please remember to send it back with the book each day as first grades share the books. October is also when I have to assess each student with our DRA2 (Diagnostic Reading Assessment) tool. It will help guide me in altering groups to meet each student's needs. Reading is our main focus for the beginning of the school year. The students will begin using the Signeture Series as a reading curriculum support. This series will be used in combination with guiding reading, shared reading and read alowed to offer a balanced literacy program. We will be reviewing and expanding sight words vocabulary increase in fluency and teaching good reading habits.
