Rest up over the long week end for the start of a very special and very busy month – May!! I will spend time explaining the activities I hope you will be able to share with us on Friday, May 11th. Kindergarten “hosts” the annual May procession in honor of the Blessed Mother. The program will begin at 10:45 am. After the program we will celebrate YOU with our “Mother’s Day Ice Cream Social”. There will be an opportunity to order a pizza lunch on your child’s lunch order form next week. You may decide to pack your lunch instead. The “social” will probably last for one hour. That is not including the May procession. I know many of you work and I am trying to give you a time frame for the activities. It is a very special time together and we do want to honor both Jesus’ mother and all of you for the important role you play in your child’s life. We do want to make this a special time for you and your child in kindergarten. Space is very limited. We ask that younger siblings not attend the “Ice Cream Social”, if at all possible.
The Dress for the day – Your child will wear Sunday type clothes for the procession and social. They will wear their outfits to school that day. They should wear school sneakers. Please send flowers from your garden or pick up some cut flowers from the market for your child to carry in the procession. We look forward to a very special day!
I wanted to remind you that we will be going to Renfrew Institute for Environmental study on Tuesday, May 29th. Permission slips will be found in folders next week. It will be an all day field trip. It is a wonderful “hands on” experience in a beautiful setting. The bus will leave school at 8:45 am and return at 2:30 pm. You are welcome to meet us at the park to help chaperone the field trip.
Here is a brief summary of what we accomplished in class this week. In religion we talked about Jesus being the “light” of the world. We discussed the importance of light in our world and how Jesus’ light can shine through us by kind words and deeds. We were busy writing sentences in our journals and about out science observations. We saw carnations slowly turn from white to blue. I hope your child shared this with you this week. We took care of our plants and are continuing to watch them grow. In language arts we worked on the letter K, k. We also learned about quotation marks, why and how we use them. We worked with them in our oral reading and journals writing. In math we learned about dividing and identifying and ordering numbers. If your child talks about using “playing cards”, we used them for that lesson.

Prayer Partners
We are partnered with Mrs. Vine's fifth grade class this year. The students had a "get together" yesterday to meet and get acquainted. We will meet periodically throughout the year. The meetings will coincide with holidays and special events. There are more fifth graders than kindergarteners. We gave several kindergarteners two partners. The names of your child's partner will be provided on the hard copy.
