Physical Education - The Mind and Body Connection
The physical education program a Hangzhou International School is based on a holistic approach that not only aids in the physical development of students, but also the mental and social development. Upper School Physical Education
In Middle School Physical Education at Hangzhou International School, students learn proper technique and form for skills associated with the following sports: volleyball, basketball, badminton, soccer, and floor hockey. Additonally, students learn improved communication and team work through participating in cooperative games where participants work together to achieve a goal.
Every physical education class at HIS has the following daily segments: 1) warming the muscles with a gentle game or jog/powerwalk, 2) group resistance training using our own body weight and/or student bodybars, 3) stretching and balance to increase flexibility and prevent injury, 4) sport skill instruction and practice, and 5) sport skill application through game play. Students are graded on: 1) wearing the proper HIS physical education uniform and athletic shoes, 2) daily participation, 3) sport skills tests, and 4) written quizes.
Lower School Physical Education
The Lower School Physical Education Program at Hangzhou International School places emphasis on teaching students fundamental fitness and sports concepts. Students are taught how to execute sports skills properly, and then apply them to basic games of learning. Additionally, students participate in cooperative games where they learn to get along with their peers and value and respect differences.
The following sports and activities are included in the Physical Education Program at Hangzhou International School: nonlocomotive and locomotive movements, dance, increasing flexibility through stretching, throwing and catching skills, striking skills, jumping rope, basketball skills, soccer skills, badminton skills, and various games that are both competitive and cooperative. |
