Select Choirs

WELCOME TO CHOIR!
Welcome to 7th and 8th grade Performance Choir. This year is going to be a great year for all of us.  Students for Performance/Select Choirs will need to have BLACK DRESS SLACKS, BLACK JEANS, BLACK SKIRTS, DRESS SHOES OR DARK SNEAKERS, for our performances.  SHIRTS ARE PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL, to wear at performances.  The only exception to this will be when we sing in the park before the Christmas Parade.   The following dates are already set for performances for the 2012 - 2013 school year.  Please mark them on your calendars, as they are required attendance performances.  The dates are:  NOV. 9TH OR 12TH, DEC. 3RD, DEC. 13TH, FEB. 23RD, APR. 20TH and MAY 13TH. We will look to add on to these dates as are requested by groups and/or the community. Let's work together to make this a great year for all students! District Home Page
7th Grade Select/Performance Choir
Students will be learning to sing in parts, which could be 3-part or 4-part.   This will require them to be able to sing harmonies, while the melody is being sung at the same time.  We are going to perform music of different genres, which may include foreign languages, cultures and information about the composer(s).

The first two days of class are going to be a time for listening, for me, to hear what they are going to be able to do right now, as well as determine the difficulty of the music that I would like for them to learn.

8/20/2012 - 8/24/2012

This week will continue to be a time for listening to the students and then handing out the first piece of music.  We will work on learning the names of the lines and spaces and then start on the types of notes and rests to identify when looking at a piece of music.

9/4 - 9/7

This week we will explore reading music.  This will be 2 -part and 3-part music..  They should be able to read note names, lines and spaces names, types of notes and rests and learn this week about dynamic markings.  All of this goes into being able to interpret what the composer wishes in the performance of their music.

10/01 - 10/05

Students are receiving Christmas music this week.  Concert is Thursday, Dec. 13th.  It is a required attendance performance.  All music for the concert must be memorized.

We are also performing, weather permitting, before the Christmas Parade on Monday, December 3rd, in the Gazebo at Central Park.  This is early enough that the students involved in the Christmas Parade will have a chance to sing with us and be in place before the parade starts.  Performance start time is 5:30 p.m.

11/19/12

Two weeks from today is the night that we "Sing in the Park" before the Christmas Parade.  5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. is our performnance time at the Gazebo in Central Park.

8th grade Select/Performance Choir
We are going to perform 3-part and 4-part music, as well as learn about the composer(s) of our music.  The music for our performances will cover different genres, cultures and time periods in relationship as to where music came from and what influences music today.

The first two days singing will help me to determine what voice ranges I have and what the students are capable of accomplishing.

8/20/2012 - 8/24/2012

Review, as well as learning, will take place this week when we go to the lines and spaces names in a piece of music.  Also, the names of the notes and rests as students look at the music.

9/4 - 9/7

This week we will be adding dynamic markings to the list of musical references and how they apply to the performance of the music.  These will go along with the types of notes and rests, names of the notes, names of the lines and spaces and being able to put this all together in 3-part and 4-part music to be performed in this choir.

10/01 - 10/05

We are starting Christmas music this week.  Christmas concert is Thursday, December 13th and it is a required attendance performance.

We are also Singing in the Park, weather permitting, on Monday, December 3rd, before the Christmas Parade.  The performance starts at 5:30 p.m., which will allow enough time for those who are participating in the Christmas Parad to sing with us and then make their way to the parade.

Two weeks from today is the night that we "Sing in the Park" before the Christmas Parade.  We will sing from 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Learning Resource Lab (LRL)
The students are required to bring all materials to class everyday, and especially their planners.  The planner needs to be filled out completely and consistently for every class that they have, so that I, as well as you, know what materials were covered, and especially know what the homework assignment(s) are for each day.

8/20/2012 - 8/24/2012

This week will find the students learning to use the START sheet and filling out the sheet correctly and completely.  It will also be a test week to remember to bring homework material(s) to class to work on.  The students will use extra time to work on the states, capitals and abbreviations for the state that will be used in the 7th grade World Geopgraphy classes.

9/4 - 9/7

Students are losing points in their daily grade because of not having parent signatures at the end of each week.  Please make susre that you are signing the planners for your students daily grade points.  Bringing enough work to class is becoming a problem.  The studenbts need to ask their teachers for extra work to be able to stay focused and busy in LRL.

10/01 - 10/05

Parent Signatures are no longer required on the student planners.  Planners will still be checked daily in class as part of the daily grade for the students.

Planners are still not being filled out completely as to assignments in each class by the student(s), and therefore my ability to help them with the homework assignment(s) is greatly hampered when the planner does not reflect what they had in class.
