Dear Parents,

Welcome to room 505! My name is Mr. Lara and before I begin with an explanation of what is going to be expected this year, I would like share some information about myself with you. This is my 17th year as a teacher. I am very excited to work with your child and I look forward to work alongside with you to ensure your children’s success in school the academic year. In order to achieve this, it is important that we come prepared to class every day and ready to learn.

I would like to share with you my expectations for this academic year:

Materials: Please bring a notebook, 2 pencils, lined paper, erasers, highlighter, colored pen.

Class Expectations:

Student

• Students are expected to actively participate in their learning. This means that students are to complete all class assignments, work diligently, and try their best at all times.
• Students are expected to follow all classroom rules and procedures.
• Students are expected to complete all homework.

Parent

• Please provide a quiet place for your child to complete homework.
• Pleases return items that require your signature by the due date.
• Please ensure that your child completes his/her homework.
• Please contact teacher if you have concerns or questions.

Teacher

• Provide challenging and engaging lessons that follow the California State Standards.
• Enforce classroom rules.
• Communicate with parents and students regarding student progress.
• Listen to students and help them reach their goals.

Grades

Grades are based on class work (including all warm-ups, notes, and class activities), class participation, homework, tests, and projects.

Scale:

90-100% A
80-89% B
70-79% C
60-69% D
below 60% F

Punctuality

• Come to class on time daily.
• Be in your seats when the bell rings
• Attend every class (Attendance improves performance. Check with me immediately upon your return from any absense)

Consequences for tardies: For every three tardies a student receives from any class, they will serve a 30 minute detention after school.

• If students fails to attend after school detention, the number and length of days for detention will be doubled.
• Persistent tardies will not be tolerated and could result in parent conferences and additional consequences.

Homework

• Homework is assigned daily including Fridays.
• Late homework accepted if absent, special circumstance, or note from home.

Parent Communication

• Feel free to contact me through e-mail, or school phone. Information is provided on parent letter.

Code of Conduct

1. Be prepared to work when the bell rings (bring materials to class, sharpen pencils before class starts).
2. Follow instructions the first time they are given.
3. Raise your hand to speak or get out of your seat.
4. No food, drinks or GUM, electronic devices, or use of cosmetics in class.
5. All math work must be done in pencil – no pens.
6. Respect yourself, the teacher, each other & our classroom.

Consequences For Unacceptable Behavior

1. verbal warning to student
2. student will receive time out and parent contact
3. detention and parent contact
4. parent contact and referral

Notifications of opportunities for additional support outside of class

• I will provide extra support to students. I encourage all students to arrange a convenient meeting time outside of class for extra help.

Binder Policy

All students will be provided a 3 ring bider this is a school policy that I will enforce.

Consequences

1. Verbal warning to student
2. 10 minute detention
3. 20 minute detention and parent contact
