This is a literature and nonfiction-based course that will also use essays, research, and discussion to teach reading, writing, and higher level thinking skills. Units taught include (but are not limited to) short story, drama, non-fiction,vocabulary, research, writing, mythology, poetry and the novel.

Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition is a course designed to allow secondary students, who are capable and willing, to attempt reading and writing on works of literature typically found in the college curriculum. Students are encouraged to take the national examination in May, for a fee, to gain college credit for their college English requirements.

The course engages students in close reading and careful, critical analysis of classic literature.
