Thank you for your interest in this class. In order to become an advocate you need to have knowledge of the Special Education laws both nationally and locally. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has very specific requirements for schools to adhere to for the protection of students. This training will include a description of the laws and the requirements for schools and states to insure that students are given the education to which they are entitled. There are no certifications nor licenses that enable advocates to practice and be effective. However, without training and complete knowledge an advocate would not be capable of representing families and students. That is the purpose of offering this course...to give that training and knowledge. And, to certify that the attendee has received this training and completed it successfully.
This is a description and an explanation of how to become an Advocate for Special Education Students. It incorporates the training that Departments of Education use to initiate advocates into the program.
