Algebra 1
ALGEBRA 1 SYLLABUS
TEACHER: Ms. Huryan

Course: Algebra 1 - 1200310
This course incorporates all Florida Sunshine State Standards and related Benchmarks as described at: http://www.floridastandards.org/Courses/PublicPreviewCourse1.aspx. The aim of this course is to develop algebraic concepts and processes that can be used to solve a variety of real-world and mathematical problems.
Instructional Philosophy
A. Students are expected to:
• Come to class on time and ready to learn
• Be respectful to themselves, others, and school property
• Be able to work cooperatively with others
• Work independently and in groups
• Bring appropriate materials to class
• Keep a neat and organized notebook
• Review daily lessons for at least 30 minutes each evening
B. Instruction will be delivered in a variety of ways including:
• Lecture/note taking
• Group work
• Projects (please note that working together is often permitted in class but COPYING IS NOT. Working together means verifying answers, not copying work or answers. THIS IS CHEATING AND WILL RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS.
Grading Policy
Tests 50%
Quizzes 30%
Homework 20%


Attendance Policy: all students are expected to be PRESENT & ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE in all of their classes every day. If you are absent from school you must provide a valid reason for the absence (see Student Handbook). The absence MUST be explained in writing or phone call with in 10 days of the student’s return to school. If a student is absent 3 days in a row and/or has excessive absences, a phone call will be made home.

Home work is given daily followed by comprehension quizzes. My expectation of the student is to work a minimum of 30 minutes nightly for each lesson reviewed in class. LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Supplies Needed:
• 2” Binder
• Pencils
• Highlighters
• Paper to include graph paper
• Calculator (scientific or graphing)

Policies
No late homework will be accepted
Cheating will result in a grade of zero for all parties involved
Students will have one day per day absent to make up any missing work. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain any missed notes or assignments.
Using the bathroom during classroom time is a privilege. If this privilege is abused, it may be restricted or taken away.
If ALL WORK is not shown on homework, a grade of ZERO will be given
